Walnut Console Table

Material: Black Walnut

Finish: Oil + Varnish mix, Wax

About the piece:

There was a lot of latitude to play creatively with a lot of aesthetics that we really appreciate for this piece. For both the case and doors, we did a book-match construction, which gives symmetry and accentuates the mesmerizing grain patterns of walnut. We also utilized the same boards for the top and sides, as well as across all the doors, creating a waterfall of continuous grain that makes it easy for one’s eyes to gaze across the piece and over each edge without any abrupt changes in grain. Taking a page out of Shaker design (and flipping it), we did a symmetrical curved taper on the outside edges of each leg to both lighten the look, and also to provide a sense of zoomorphism, as though the piece could walk gracefully across the room should it ever need a stretch.
